Beckmans College of Design goes Window Shopping at Gallerian, Stockholm November 10–13. Grand opening (by invitation only) on November 9 at 20–01 hrs, with fashion show, presentation of the ”Gallerian Fashion Schollarship” and performance by Jay-Jay Johansson. As usual there’s no info at Beckmans’ site.

Access All Areas is Sweden’s annual showcase and networking event for the international music industry. The event is back for the third year at Kulturhuset, November 9–10. More info here. AAA is a co-operative venture between Export Music Sweden and The British Council.

Street Market is Stockholms first permanent art, music and design market á la Spitalfields in London. Today at 16—21 hrs, there’s a special event called Fashionstreet, showcasing unestablished fashion designers. The event will recur on November 25 and is arranged by fashion designer Camilla Wellton. If you’re a design student, you might also be interested in Street Springboard. The Street Market is located at Hornstull, Stockholm, unfortunately the site is only available in Swedish.

”For the first time in Tokyo, 100% DESIGN opens its doors to what promises to be a very exciting design show. This presents a unique opportunity for the Japanese public to experience some of the best in contemporary Swedish design.” At this event in the heart of Tokyo, some 13 Swedish companies are exhibiting jointly. The event will take place November 2–6 in Jingu Gaien, Aoyama, Japan and is part of Tokyo Designer’s Week and Swedish Style in Tokyo (see previous post). More info on the 100%-event here.

Fashion designer Stella McCartney has designed a collection for Swedish clothes retailer H&M. The campaign site is now up and running in a sneak preview mode. Full site will be available tomorrow, Octorber 27. The clothes will be available in selected H&M-stores worldwide from November 10. More info on the project in the pressrelease and the image archive.

The ”Cobra” and other classic telephones in new design exhibition; ”Beloved Telephone – a Design Story” opens on 22 October at the Swedish National Museum of Science and Technology. Unique items from the museum collections will be on display together with new acquisitions, shown in Sweden for the first time. The exhibition is first in a series of exhibitions on communications called .KOM that opens in year 2006.

Swedesres’ favourite type foundry House Industries recently started a blog called Show & Tell. Their typography director Ken Barber visited Scandinavia recently, and posted this about the Swedish candybar Plopp:
”Maybe it’s just me, but a candy bar named Plopp featuring a discharging scatologic dugget on its wrapper is just not terribly appetizing. Nevertheless, the Swedish kids can’t get enough of ‘em. One of the many gems uncovered during my recent trip to Scandinavia for the 2005 ATypI conference in Helsinki.”

Kaskelot is a newly founded cultural association. On October 15 they will arrange an event called Klubb Kaskelot at Nalen with a lineup of artists like Eric Malmberg, (mp3) Hans Appelqvist, (mp3) Lasse Fabel, (mp3) and Tender Souvenirs (mp3). Konstfack student Malin Petterson-Öberg will display a collection of 350 flyers from 1998–2005, from different events in Sweden and Europe. More info at Kaskelot.net

Fashion Futures (Concours International des Jeunes Créateurs de Mode) is a fashion design competition for students. Some forty students from Konstfack, Beckmans and Textilhögskolan Borås participated in the prestigious competition and ten of them has been chosen to represent Sweden in the finals in Paris on December 15. Their work will be shown in an exhibition at Nationalmuseum October 12–October 30. Vernissage October 12 at 11–17.

SVT (Swedish Television) launched the project ”Open Archive” in March this year, making clips and programs from the past available online.
On account of the Bob Dylan documentary by Scorsese airing tonight, they’ve added two amusing clips of his arrival in Sweden 1978. Clip 1 and Clip 2.

Svenska Slöjdföreningen (Swedish Handicraft Society), now Svensk Form – the Swedish Society of Crafts and Design – is the oldest design association in the world. Since 2000, Svensk Form has had the Government’s remit to be Sweden’s national venue in the field of design.
Founded on October 6 in 1845, they’re now celebrating their 160th anniversary. Here’s a summary of the first 160 years (in Swedish). Congratulations from Swedesres!

Swedish Style is an annual event presenting contemporary Swedish lifestyle and culture to Japan and has been arranged six times since 1999. ”The aim is to promote cultural and commercial exchange between Sweden and Japan, and to create value for Swedish Style participants and partners.” This year, more than 75 Swedish creators and companies present their works at 50 events in 25 locations around Tokyo, November 2–12.
