Mejan Labs is together with the PixelACHE founder Juha Huuskonen organising the second PixelACHE festival in Stockholm as a part of the Game Art exhibition in September and October. The Stockholm version, PixelVÄRK, will this time concentrate on seminars discussing aesthetic qualities and a club event with Dj and Vj performances.

London based designer Ben Drury will stage his first ever exhibition in Stockholm at Beneath. The exhibition will run from the August 24 — September 16 and will feature a body of work entitled ”Trust me London”. More info here.

Live graffiti at Rosendals trädgård this weekend August 12 - 13 at 12.00 - 17.00 hrs. 120 meters of canvas will be painted by De Professionella Konstgangstrarna, Tele, Finsta, Murk, Killa, Ares, Möe-crew, Ollio, Kropp, Glue, Rabbit boy, Ians, Armsrock, CP-crew. The Caravan Project is a non-profit group that wants to bring design and art back to the people. The pink and yellow caravan will tour Sweden in July 2006 displaying artwork by various artists and designers. More info here. In English

O2nordic, Albaeco and Konstfack have founded a design competition with the purpose of stimulating Swedish design that contributes to a sustainable future.
The winner will receive a prize of 20 000SEK and is to be presented during Future Design Days 2006. Applications to be submitted before September 13th, 2006. Read more here.

Open house at Konstfack on January 30. ”Öppet hus är Konstfacks årliga informationsdag då vi öppnar portarna för att visa våra lokaler och låta de olika utbildningarna presenterar sig. Real/Unreal is an exhibition at Kulturhuset showing photos of the USA 1966-2003 by photo journalist Hasse Persson. Featured amongst the more than hundered photos are Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, Bob Dylan, Alfred Hitchcock, Larry Hagman, Muhammad Ali, Claes Oldenburg and a series of pictures from Studio 54. The exhibition is open January 27-March 22, more info here.

McDonalds, Svensk Form and Gustavsberg has teamed up to present a design competition that sounds quite exiting; create new patterns for McDonalds coffee cups. Three winners will be selected by a jury and have their patterns printed on all McDonalds’ coffee cups this summer plus a scholarship of 20.000 kr. One of the patterns will also be printed by Gustavsberg on real porcelain cups in a limited edition.
The competition opens tomorrow, January 10th, when more information will be available at the campaign site.

Allmänna Galleriet 925 is seeking proposals for digitally produced, low budget films between 1 and 10 minutes in length.

As part of the ongoing war-poster exhibition at The Royal Library in Stockholm (October14—January 31), a series of lectures is held on Thursdays at 18.00 hrs. This Thursday its about Anders Beckman, Swedish advertising pioneer and founder of Beckmans College of Design.
The Royal Library has a collection of ca 500.000 posters in their vaults, a small fraction of the collection is available online.

The graphic novel V for Vendetta (wiki) has been translated to Swedish. The books’ illustrator David Lloyd will visit Serieteket on November 19 at 16.00 hrs to talk about the project. More info on the event here (in Swedish). The story was recently transfered to the silverscreen.

Grand opening (by invitation only) on November 9 at 20–01 hrs, with fashion show, presentation of the ”Gallerian Fashion Schollarship” and performance by Jay-Jay Johansson. Access All Areas is Sweden’s annual showcase and networking event for the international music industry. The event is back for the third year at Kulturhuset, November 9–10. More info here. AAA is a co-operative venture between Export Music Sweden and The British Council.

Street Market is Stockholms first permanent art, music and design market á la Spitalfields in London. Today at 16—21 hrs, there’s a special event called Fashionstreet, showcasing unestablished fashion designers. The event will recur on November 25 and is arranged by fashion designer Camilla Wellton. If you’re a design student, you might also be interested in Street Springboard. The Street Market is located at Hornstull, Stockholm, unfortunately the site is only available in Swedish.
Frank Form is a small but nice shop in Stockholm, filled with interior accesories and other things. They’re celebrating their one year anniversary tomorrow, October 28, so swing by Kungsholmsgatan 20 this weekend. ”Grattis” from Swedesres!
